My quest to give it up….
It all started after I made the big move to Melbourne.
Hailing from a small town, my idea of a good coffee involved a jar of instant, some boiling water and a good helping of sugar…but all this was about to change when I moved to the coffee capital of Australia…
Almost as soon as I moved into the funky student suburb of Brunswick, I knew that I was a goner – every store I walked past exuded some new and delicious aroma…apple flavoured shisha…Middle Eastern pastries and most fragrant of all – roasting coffee beans.
It started slowly – a strict once a day kind of habit…a quick stop on the way to uni or an afternoon treat as I made my way home…
And then I met Suze Healy – Melbourne Private Tours resident coffee connoisseur…
Everything went down hill from there…
Now don’t get me wrong Suze…I’m not blaming you…I’m just merely stating a well known fact that you are a hopeless coffee addict…and now I am as well…
After several months of caffeine induced sleeplessness due to excessive coffee consumption…I made the decision to quit.
The first hour was fine… I arrived at work…opened my emails and responded to some queries. Then it started – Suze walked in with a steaming hot latte…then Josh decided that it was coffee time – I ignored it.
Three days later we moved to our new offices in Collingwood – coffee central…I just lasted the day…
The next day I found the coffee machine at work and simultaneously stumbled across the freshly ground Brazilian coffee beans….I was barely able to peel myself away…
Following morning – Suze calls – staff meeting at Proud Mary…Only the BEST coffee in town…
My resolve beaten into submission, I bow to desire and order a large, strong, skinny latte…and dissolve back into my caffeine induced coma…
